In an effort to boost North Carolina’s rural economy, VisitNC and Airbnb are working together to highlight small-town housing.

Last year, Airbnb’s new hosts in North Carolina earned a total of $ 75 million – not including the added bonus local businesses receive when booking accommodation in a small town.

Whether you are looking for something stylish or rustic, Airbnb has something for everyone. As the weather warms up, people are eager to go out and visit North Carolina gems such as the Blue Ridge Mountains or the Outer Banks.

The difference in staying with Aibnb compared to a hotel is that you are supporting a local business owner. Also, the experience is more intimate due to the relationship that guests have with their hosts.

“These rural destinations have so much to offer to those looking for a new vacation destination or even a temporary new home,” said Haven Thorn, Airbnb’s communications manager.

To encourage people to travel to North Carolina, VisitNC and Airbnb offer a gift where people have the opportunity to win a $ 1,000 Airbnb accommodation voucher, a $ 500 Visa gift card and gift cards to three local businesses and attractions.

“The hope is that they will get the gift card and go to the state of North Carolina to some of these incredible destinations,” Thorne said.

The draws started on April 25 and end on October 31. Five people have the opportunity to earn cash for their vacation. The winners will be selected at random based on three entry periods.

The first period begins on April 25 and ends on June 30, the second begins on July 1 and ends on August 31, and the third begins on September 1 and ends on October 31.

How Airbnb affects the local economy

Airbnb recorded a 130% increase in people booking accommodation in rural North Carolina from 2019 to 2021, Thorn said.

The campaign hopes to help North Carolina’s tourism economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tourism is a big part of the state’s economy, and last year, North Carolina brought an almost high number of tourism dollars to the state.

Gov. Roy Cooper announced this month that North Carolina generated $ 28.9 billion in visitor spending in 2021.

Many people who want to make money from the start-up economy or start their own business flock to Airbnb. According to a data analysis by Stratos, 14,000 new hosts join the platform each month.

“Since our inception, the Airbnb platform has helped communities use existing space to scale accommodation and absorb the influx of visitors, while creating significant financial opportunities for hosts and local small businesses,” Thorn said.

Airbnb has brought a total of $ 33.8 billion to the US economy.
